In any other year the Rossendale Trust would be holding its hugely popular and well attended Summer Fete about now.

But like so many events it has been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The fete would have raised in excess of £10,000 for the Sutton-based charity. But all is not lost and trust bosses have revealed plans for an online fete as they look to raise much-needed cash.

There are innovative online events to get involved in, such as ‘Whiskey up a Tree’, ‘Soak the CEO’ and even a virtual Balloon Race – with real cash prizes.

Sue Heaven, the trust’s head of fundraising, said: “People from the community and those who live at Rossendale really need your help right now.

“Visit our website www.rossendaletrust.org from now until August 23.  Enjoy the events, visit our virtual stalls. it’s so easy, lots of fun and you can win cash prizes too!”

Trust chief executive Steve Nichols said” “At this difficult time for all charities, we hope that the digital fete will go some way towards raising the urgently-needed funds that we would usually receive from the fete.”

Sue added: “The funds raised help the people in our care to participate in an ever-growing list of activities.

“From supporting them to take part in an endeavour of lifetime, like the Great Manchester Run, or buying sensory garden plants, every penny raised helps to improve the lives of all the tenants at Rossendale.”
