More than 150 fund- raisers, double the number who took part in 2023, braved the cold to raise vital funds for Bolton Wander- ers in the Community (BWitC), Urban Out- reach, Emmaus Bolton and Backup North West. Neil Hart, chief exec- utive at Bolton Wan- derers, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the current total raised by this year’s Sleepout. “Though conditions were tough on the night, everyone who took part did a fantastic job and should be incredibly proud of what’s now been achieved. “A huge thank you to all the fundraisers, the partners who supported the event and every per- son who has donated over the past few weeks.” Phil Mason, chief exec- utive at Bolton Wander- ers in the Community, added: “The night and the conditions were a challenge, however it provided everyone with an understanding and insight into the reality of homelessness. “This was our second BWFC Sleepout and it was truly encouraging to see the number of fundraisers and local people willing to sup- port the cause double. It continues to run from Middlebrook to Chorley via Adling- ton before extending to Chorley Hospital via Ast- ley Village. The service also runs more frequently, gener- ally operating every hour throughout the day from Monday to Saturday. The Monday to Satur- day evening and Sunday short journeys between Chorley and Astley Vil- lage will continue to operate and has been renumbered Service 127 instead of Service 119. Scott Smith, county council lead member for highways and active travel, said: “Thanks to the funding we’ve received from govern- ment for our Bus Ser- vice Improvement Plan, we’re making some big improvements to services in Lancashire. “One of our main aims is to encourage more people to use the bus by providing extra jour- neys at times that people find convenient. “I’m also really pleased that we are providing better links within the Chorley area so that more people have easy access to bus services, and there are more direct links to the hospital to help people get to their appointments. “We’ll be working closely with operators to build passenger numbers with the aim of making these services sustain- able over the long term. I’d encourage as many residents as possible to try them out.” Roads minister Guy Opperman said: “Local people deserve a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport sys- tem.
