The highlight of my engagements was undoubt- edly the “Mayor’s 50th birth- day bash”, which was not just a celebration of personal achievement but also a signif- icant charitable event. The gala successfully raised approximately £1,500 for various charities, thanks to the generosity of attend- ees and the local businesses who donated raffle prizes and gifts. Heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to making the event a resound- ing success and a beacon of community spirit. In another nod to Horwich’s rich heritage, I had the honour of opening the ‘100 Years of Horwich Harriers’ exhibition at the Heritage Centre. This landmark event pays tribute to the enduring leg- acy and achievements of the Harriers, showcasing a cen- tury of athletic excellence and community involvement that continues to inspire. Adding to the month’s unique engagements was a midnight send-off for a group of Bolton Wanderers fans embarking on a trek to Blackpool. This extraordinary event aimed to raise funds for defi- brillators throughout Bolton, highlighting the community’s commitment to health and safety. On a personal note, I was especially thrilled to meet Bol- ton Wanderers legend ‘Super’ John McGinlay, who kindly autographed my treasured 1995 play-off final programme. The month’s engagements concluded on a reflective note with a sombre ceremony at Winter Hill to commemorate the victims of the Winter Hill air disaster. This event organised by Horwich Heritage and served as a poignant reminder of the town’s resilience and the importance of coming together to honour our collective his- tory. Horwich Town Council and Horwich Heritage pro- vided a wreath which we laid near to the site. Through a mix of cele- bration, remembrance, and community service, my engagements over the past month have truly embodied the spirit of Horwich. These events not only high- light the town’s rich heritage and dedication to charitable causes but also reinforce the strong bonds of community that make Horwich a remark- able place to live.
