The Amazon team in Bolton has made a £1,000 donation to charity in Salford that aims to combat children's cancer in the UK.
Kidscan funds and manages research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. The charity is based in Salford but supports children across the country.
Many children who survive cancer suffer life-long effects such as learning difficulties, mobility issues and infertility. The donation will help fund research into developing new treatments that not only cure children with cancer but also prevent the side effects of current treatments.
Amazon is committed to raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer. Through its annual Amazon Goes Gold campaign, the company partners with hospitals and research organisations around the world and wraps a selection of its delivery fleet in gold ribbons to further increase awareness across its network. The Amazon Goes Gold campaign was launched in 2017.
Speaking on the donation, Nicolas Verdon, Site Leader at Amazon's Bolton fulfilment centre, said:
"On behalf of the team, we would like to thank Kidscan for its dedication to caring for children with cancer. We hope this donation will help fund more research projects and help the charity to continue its work and scientific progression."
Bethany Hinchliffe, Corporate Fundraising Manager from Kidscan added: "We are very thankful for this donation and are pleased the Bolton team contributed to our charity. On behalf of Kidscan, I would like to thank Nicolas and the team for the kind donation. We are extremely grateful."
The Amazon team made the donation to Kidscan as part of the "Amazon In The Community" programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.
Amazon is also providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering 1.4 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
