HORWICH councillor Richard Silvester has presented two cheques for £225 each to the Chair of Trust Music Bolton, Nigel M Taylor and to Karen Smith of The Woodland Trust from donations in memory of former Horwich Town Councillor Andrew Morley who passed away in his sleep, unexpectedly, aged 49 last November.

Mr Morley played the violin in Bolton Symphony Orchestra and was the Treasurer of Churches Together in Horwich and sung in Horwich Parish Church choir.

The monies donated to Trust Music will be used to support a bursary for a young person in disadvantaged circumstances so that they may pursue their musical dreams.

Trust Music works alongside Bolton Council’s Schools Music Service and provides support for young people in the Borough through music learning and participation.

The Woodland Trust donation will be used to support the management of the Smithills estate where a tree was also planted in memory of Mr Morley.

A plaque has also been installed outside of Horwich Parish Church in memory of Mr Morley.

Cllr Silvester said: “Andrew was very much community spirited and these donations have been made through his love of music and the environment. He was well liked and is greatly missed.”
