Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men (HPMMM) are looking forward to an exciting 2018 with invites to perform at several big events on folk music and dance scene, including Whitby Folk Week, Chippenham Festival and Beverley Folk Festival following great success in 2017 at Sidmouth Folk Week and the Rose & Castle event in Northamptonshire.
The 2018 season starts at home in Horwich as the team processes around the town on the annual Day for St George on Saturday April 21st.
This year HPMMM will be joined by a great line up of teams from across the country. We’re pleased to welcome several new visitors to Horwich from Wakefield Morris, Customs and Exiles from Berkshire and Malkin Morris from Burnley. Plus there will be welcome return appearances for old favourites Wrigley Head, Saddleworth Morris the Britannia Coconut Dancers from Bacup.
As ever, we are ably aided and abetted by our close friends and fellow local performers, Rivington Morris.
The procession around several pubs will be led this year for the first time by Horwich RMI brass band which will make this year’s event a unique occasion celebrating some of the best of performers from our neck of the West Pennine woods.
As ever, the procession will commence at 10am from the team’s base at the Crown and proceed via Bank Top Ale House and The Bridge before reaching The Saddle at noon.
In the afternoon the procession will continue on to the Bowling Green, Original Bay Horse and Tap & Cork and then the Blackedge brewery before returning to the Crown late afternoon.
HPMMM’s leader, Tom Besford says that Horwich people have always given the event great support: “We are looking forward to another big crowd so that our visiting teams can see what makes Horwich such a brilliant and welcoming place.
“We really appreciate all the support of the town in cheering on our annual celebration and hope these local traditions continue to grow and thrive!”
