Members of Bolton Cancer Voices are looking forward to entering the roaring twenties under the baton of their new Musical Director Helen Eadie, who stepped in to the position on a temporary basis before Christmas and has decided that this is an opportunity too good to be missed!

An accomplished violinist, Helen took up the bow at the tender age of just three and following her successful studies began freelancing with various orchestras throughout Britain before joining the BBC Philharmonic in 2006, where she worked for eight years. Helen was also leader of Bolton Symphony Orchestra for eleven years, leaving in September 2017 to take on a new venture as leader of Stockport Symphony Orchestra.

But alongside her work teaching the violin and examining, Helen has always been passionate about singing and the way it can positively affect wellbeing. In 2011 she founded Stockport Community Choir, which she still directs: she also runs a singing for health group in North Manchester; has taken over a Doing Dementia Differently Choir and set up a Singing for Lung Health Group.  These Choirs provide a real opportunity to allow the power of music to make a difference in people’s lives, which is the heart of where Helen’s passion lies.

Karen Elliott – Founder & Chair of Bolton Cancer Voices said: -

‘Helen joined us temporarily to get us through our commitments over the festive season and did a truly outstanding job! We are absolutely delighted that she has accepted the role of Musical Director with us going forward.

She’s a consummate professional, with a rich musical background: her passion and enthusiasm shine through and already the Choir are being swept along on the next leg of our exciting musical journey together. Rehearsals are filled with laughter and learning: she sees the potential the Choir holds and shares our vision in ensuring we are the best we can be and deliver great musical adventures to inspire members and give them unforgettable choral experiences. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!’

In recent years choral singing has seen a huge resurgence in popularity and is increasingly recognised as a beneficial activity for people coping with various health conditions. Bolton Cancer Voices was a forerunner in the field, harnessing the power of song through a dedicated Choir to support people living with and beyond cancer.

If you are over eighteen years old and have received a cancer diagnosis recently or in the past; love to sing or are keen to try something new, why not join them.
