Detectives are investigating after a car was torched on a drive in Bolton.

Shortly before 4am on Friday 10 August 2018 a blue Mercedes A Class was set on fire while it was parked on the drive of a home on Sandhill Close in Great Lever.

The fire service was immediately called and on arrival firefighters discovered the vehicle had been completely destroyed by the flames, while the house was also damaged as a result of the fire.

Police were alerted and a team of detectives established the car had been deliberately set alight.

An investigation was launched and officers are continuing to speak to neighbours, recover CCTV and carry out any further forensic work.

Detective Inspector Mike Gladwin, from GMP’s Bolton borough, said: “We believe this was a targeted attack on this property and are trying to establish why someone would do this.

“Setting fire to anything is extremely dangerous but to torch a car outside a property where children are inside could have resulted in devastating consequences. Thankfully, in this instance, no one was injured.

“However, this was still a terrifying ordeal for the family and we are doing everything we can to find the person responsible for this.”

The investigation team would like to hear from anyone with any information about this arson attack. Details can be passed on by calling Bolton CID on 0161 856 5757 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
